Winnie's First Love

Winnie has always been my most boy-crazy daughter.  Her aspirations as a 4-year-old were to wear high heels and kiss a boy. She's always had a wandering eye and changes crushes as frequently as she changes socks, but that all changed in Mrs. Simpson's third grade class.  Winnie met Caden Rasmussen and fell in love. They spent every recess together, played chess in their downtime and scheduled regular play dates - with adult supervision of course.  I'm still a little nervous Winnie's going to make good on her goal list and start smooching in elementary school!

I didn't believe it at first, but after spending some time on field trips, play dates and class parties with these two, they are soul mates - both soft-spoken, kind-hearted kids with very dry, funny senses of humor!  Caden loves science, lizards and knows everything about dinosaurs! Winnie spent the year hunting down every toy lizard she could find to give to her true love/best friend. Caden gave Winnie a cute stuffed animal for Christmas and wrote her the sweetest note. It said something to the tune of, "I love you because you are so kind to everyone." She is!

Sadly, like Romeo and Juliet, their love was not meant to be.  Caden's parents moved to Boise at the end of the school year and they took Caden, and a chunk of Winnie's heart, with them. The only light at the end of the tunnel is knowing Caden's grandparents still live by us and they can still see each other when he visits.  Who knows, maybe he's the one!
