Poor Junie has been plagued with strep throat for as long as I can remember. Whenever she got stressed - usually at the the beginning of every school year, or whenever she got sick, it would always turn to strep. We asked all of her pediatricians to look at her tonsils, but they always said the same thing: Her tonsils are tiny, they don't need to come out. After the 4th bout of strep this year, I finally strong-armed our doctor into recommending that she have them out. Our friend, Dr. Morgan Yost, did the surgery. He said what I knew all along. Her tiny tonsils were full of puss and gunk and they were definitely the cause of all her strep.
June did great through the surgery. In fact, the nurse said she was the most polite patients she's ever seen coming out of anesthesia saying please and thank you like a quiet little church mouse. Kolby had hoped we'd get some good, incriminating videos of her being goofy, but she just cried because she couldn't remember what color the balloon was. She was pretty giggly when the nurse had to wheel her out to the car in this giant wheelchair made for obese patients - it's the only one they had!
She seemed pretty spunky and happy directly following the surgery. It was day two and the next two weeks that were a nightmare! She didn't talk for 5 days, she said the pain was horrible, she stopped eating and she lost five pounds which left her skin and bones.
The ear pain was the worst part! I think she had an earache for the better part of the month. It was rough! The good news is that she's been strep-free ever since. Hopefully it was all worth it!
