Play Ball!!!

May and June can be summed up in one word:  SOFTBALL!  June's been at this ball business since she was 4 years old, smacking a ball off a tee and running toward the honking first base.  This was her second year as starting pitcher on her fast pitch softball team and she didn't disappoint!  She threw more strike-outs than any other pitcher in her league, including a 6-foot-tall, 130 pound 10-year-old who had an arm like a rocket.  June might be tiny, but she's mighty!  She has the ability to tune out all the noise and turn on the skill under pressure.

June got her first home run this season, too!

We so enjoy cheering for June - especially Klive and Winnie.  I'm surprised that they already understand the game so well.  Winn keeps her pitching count and always turns on the best cheers when June needs a boost.  Klive just copies mom and yells, "Push hard, Junie, flick that wrist!"

We even sprung for some real pitching lessons this summer.  June's pitching coach pitches college ball and she was impressed with June's ability to pick up new skills so quickly and how well she throws for such a little thing.  She had June doing so many squats this summer to add to her power, June actually put on some real thigh muscle and outgrew her school pants!

The best part of softball is always the team!  June's old team was dissolved when her former coach moved up to the older league with her daughter, and June was put on another team.  She joined a great group of girls and had a positive new coach that really appreciated her pitching skills!

Winnie and Klive's favorite part of the season was the frequent trips to get ice cream after the games!

We had a great season and took third in the tournament.  June threw some great games, especially her last game, but we just couldn't beat the Fort Hall girls.  A fellow player's dad is the coach of the semi-pro team in Pocatello, so all the players came out to support our team in tournament.  It really made the girls feel special!

June's great pitching earned her enough cash to buy this new bike.  Thanks Mom, Dad, and Uncle Buck for making her bike dreams come true!
