The big day finally came! The cast came off, physical therapy was complete and Dr. Esplin gave Klive the all-clear to sign up for gymnastics! It was a day of sheer joy and excitement, but it was short-lived.
Literally three days later, Klive was playing frisbee in the front yard with his cousins, tripped over his own feet, landed on his newly-healed arm and broke it even more severely than the first time. I can use the same picture from break #1 because he broke it wearing the exact same shirt - his now "unlucky" Sooners football jersey. He didn't even cry. He just came in the house cradling his U-shaped appendage and said, "Mom, I broke my arm again - I HATE myself!!!" Unfortunately, this time we had to take him to the emergency room to have it reduced to line the bones up. We tried to look on the bright side of break #2, which was filming Klive acting super goofy all hopped up on drugs. So back in the cast he went for another month and a half. Poor kid. All he wanted to do was play like a normal boy at recess. Instead, he spent 3 more months bribing a few friends to stay in for recess and play computer games with him. Kindergarten has turned into a real bummer. On the bright side, all his time spent with Dr. Esplin has peaked his interest in a future career as an orthopedic surgeon. I guess that's a good thing?
