I've been putting this post off because it's just too sad to talk about, but I guess even the sad stuff has to be recorded. We lost our beloved Grandpa Fred in March. He'd been battling with blood cancer for a couple of years, but it was very taxing on his body, so Heavenly Father took him home.
Kolby's Grandpa was a fire fighter in his younger years in Orem, so these firemen from his old crew came to pay their respects. They stood guard over his body with the shiniest axes I've ever seen during the service. I don't think we were supposed to take pictures, but Kolby snuck this one. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know Grandpa for these past 15 years. He had a giant heart, always wore a smile on his face, and could grow ANYTHING in his gardens and greenhouses. I learned so much more about his awesome life from those who paid tribute to him - apparently he was a prankster with a heart of gold. June and I did our best to honor him with his requested song, "In the Garden." Funeral singing is rough. But anything for Grandpa Fred.
Not every bunch of great-grand kids get to know their great-grandparents, so it makes my heart happy to know that these kids will have some great memories of going to Torrey to see Grandpa Fred and Grandma Jan. I also know he will be greatly missed by his grand kids. I know we will see Grandpa again some day, and until that day, we will carry him with us in our hearts - especially when we plant a seed in the ground and watch it grow.

Beautiful post Jess, it was a lovely day together as family, remembering Grandpa Fred. This reminds me I need to find the photos I took, buried somewhere on an sd card that I haven't uploaded yet.
